OUR HISTORY

Voskeni wines is a family owned vineyard and wine making company located in Sardarapat, Ararat valley. The whole vision of Voskeni Wines revolves around the prominent story of Smbat Matevossian. In the 1920s, the noble man came to Armenia from the USA to pursue his dream of making quality wine. However, history played against him and Bolshevik authorities took away his possessions and later his life.
However, against all odds, almost 100 years later his descendants returned to Armenia from Russia, bought back the vineyards and began producing high-quality wines.
Thanks to hard work and devotion of Smbat Matevossian’s family, Voskeni Wines now offers exceptional wines, picturesque vineyards, cozy home-restaurant, terrace with a stunning view to Mount Ararat and a family always ready to welcome you.

OUR TEAM

Family lies in the foundation of our business. It all began with our forefather’s dream and continued in us- his generation. As a family business, we work and we mature in making high quality wines using the benefits of modern technology and winemaking traditions of the past. Each of our family members takes care of one aspect of the business, but we’re not alone! They say “Teamwork makes the dream work” and it’s exactly what happened to us! The dedication and hard work of our team made Smbat Matevossian’s dream come true.

WINERY & VINEYARDS

At Voskeni Wines we are experimenting with various technologies in order to discover taste characteristics that belong only to our grapes and terroir. We also love to combine modern technology with traditional Armanian winemaking techniques. The latter includes aggressively experimenting with the production of wines in Karas (Amphora) according to ancient Armenian winemaking traditions. We craft history and make wine that the wine world deserves.
Voskeni Wines currently works in two regions. First is in the Armavir region, Sardarapat area, Western side of Ararat Valley, where weather conditions are intense with significant thermal amplitudes reaching -15 / 20 ° C in winter and up to 40 ° C in summer. The plain is located at 950-1050 m above sea level in sandy, silty, pebbly soil, mainly of a volcanic origin with a mixture of pebble, granite, lava often covered with bacterial limestone. It is reactive to acidity, which is transmitted to our grapes during the ripening. Our terroir is one of the key factors that make our wines so unique.

We also get our grapes from Vayots Dzor region, Aghvnadzar village. This is one of the oldest villages where people grow grapes from generation to generation. Located in southern Armenia, Aghavnadzor is very mountainous with an altitude between 1600 and 1450m. The grapes that grow in the wild are called ``Bush vines`` (also known as goblet vines). The roots of bush vines can grow up to 20-25 meters deep in the ground in search of moisture, making the vines less sensitive to drought (bush vines require less water than taller / trellised vines) and the soil is very rich with minerals.
